Shady Side Academy is helping to fund and build a “Children’s Park,” a park designed, built and owned by the children of Ollantaytambo, Peru. The park is designed to help local children develop leadership skills, understand principles of sustainability and become responsible stewards of their land. The students will spend 8 days in Ollantaytambo before traveling to Machu Picchu, Cusco and Lima, Peru’s capital.

The mission of the World Leadership School is to unite young people around the world’s most pressing problems and empower them to become leaders. We use volunteering as a platform for teaching global issues and leadership.
World Leadership School partners with schools to offer 1-4 week service learning trips to Nicaragua, Costa Rica, Belize, Peru and the French Caribbean island of Guadeloupe. Each program is custom-fit to the needs of each school but includes the following key elements: On a World Leadership School trip, students focus on a single global issue like climate change or poverty. Students advance from understanding to action by working alongside inspiring local leaders who are doing something about these problems. Along the way, students will look inside themselves and begin a personal leadership journey. |
Buenos Dias! I trust you have arrived safely. I look forward to hearing from you as your trip progresses.

ReplyDeleteCannot wait to hear more from our SSA travelers! I hope that this trip allows you to become life-long friends and that Cusco will be a better place for having you there for two weeks. All of us parents are waiting for the heartfelt stories, so keep us informed and have a lot of fun. Missing you already Frankie :( Mrs. Costa
ReplyDeleteHopefully just a minor glitch with the first plane and hope everything goes more smoothly from here on. Looks like you got to Cusco right on time (with luggage?) Enjoy yourselves and do some good in the world.
